İngilizce Atasözleri ve İfadelerin Tam Listesi

Her ne kadar İngilizce deyimler ilk bakışta bir anlam ifade etmese de, bu benzersiz ifadeler (atasözleri ile birlikte) konuşmalarımıza madde ve mizah ekler. Oxford Sözlüğü, “ deyim ” kelimesini şöyle tanımlar : “tek tek kelimelerin çıkarılabilir bir anlamının olmadığı anlamına gelen kullanım tarafından kurulan bir kelime grubu (örneğin ayın üstünden, ışığı gör)”.

Bu, İngilizce deyimlerin kelimenin tam anlamıyla alınmaması gerektiği anlamına gelir, çünkü anlamları mecazidir. Gerçekten birisinin “bacağını kırmasını” istemezsin, değil mi? Ve aslında “kedi ve köpekleri yağdırmıyor” değil mi?
